What’s the Lifelong Learning Platform all about?

LLLP aims to voice citizens’ concerns about lifelong learning. LLLP enacts its mission based on values of inclusion, equity and the idea that no one should be left behind. A key feature of LLLP is that we strive to build bridges across education sectors to increase access to quality education for all. LLLP promotes a holistic vision of lifelong learning, “from cradle to grave”, which underscores the importance of all learning environments to the full development of all learners. Today the pattern school-work-retirement is no longer relevant as learning occurs throughout our lives. And, as a matter of fact, learning is not limited to formal education: it also integrates non-formal and informal learning.

This vision is meant to ensure equity and social cohesion as well as active citizenship. The Lifelong Learning Platform believes that the objectives of education and training should not only be described in terms of employability or economic growth but also as a framework for personal development.

By bringing together actors from all sectors of education and training, the Lifelong Learning Platform creates a space to exchange innovative practices, in Europe and beyond. By doing so, it contributes to an increased flexibility between systems, and proposes concrete solutions to make lifelong learning a reality for all.

LLLP also strives to set up a strengthened dialogue between civil society organisations and public authorities in order to modernise our educational systems as well as to support public sector innovation.

Mission

The Lifelong Learning Platform promotes a Europe-wide cooperation among civil society organisations in order to voice citizens’ concerns on lifelong learning issues, and to propose concrete solutions, based on the expertise, competencies and experience of its networks, for lifelong learning to become a reality for all. By bringing together actors from all sectors and levels of education and training, the Platform contributes to an increased flexibility between systems.

Mission & Values

The Platform has a holistic vision of lifelong learning, from cradle to grave. The Platform believes education should not be limited to formal education but integrates non-formal and informal learning. It is essential to raise awareness on the fact that lifelong learning should include a large range of learning settings and create more complementarity and continuity between formal, non-formal and informal learning.

The Platform believes education is the key to foster equity, social cohesion and active citizenship. It believes that the objectives of education and training should not only be described in terms of employability or economic growth but also as a framework for personal development.
