iMatterOnline

The iMatterOnline (iMO) project is designed to promote a safer and more inclusive digital environment for children. It responds to the growing challenges children face online, including cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content, and disinformation, as well as the limited opportunities they currently have to influence the digital spaces they use daily.

The project’s main objective is twofold: to strengthen children’s digital and emotional skills, and to empower them to actively contribute to the development of policies that affect their online safety. It adopts a child‑centred and intergenerational approach, placing children at the core of the project while fostering collaboration with adults such as parents, teachers, ICT professionals, and policymakers.

Targeting children aged 7–18, with a particular focus on those from vulnerable groups, the project will directly engage more than 1,400 children and nearly 1,200 adults. By combining education, participation, and awareness‑raising efforts, it aims to reach over 2.3 million people across Europe.

iMatterOnline is built around participatory and research‑based methods. It begins with consultations involving children and adults to better understand their needs and experiences online. These insights inform the co‑creation of Digital Literacy Packages for both children and adults that address key topics such as online safety, emotional well-being, and critical thinking. These materials are developed collaboratively with children, ensuring they are relevant, accessible, and engaging.

The project will also deliver training activities and awareness campaigns, bringing together children and adults to build skills and encourage dialogue. In addition, it promotes child participation in decision‑making through activities such as collaborative events and a policy hackathon, where stakeholders work together to translate children’s perspectives into concrete recommendations.

By combining capacity building with meaningful participation, iMatterOnline aims to strengthen children’s resilience online, improve adult support systems, and ensure that children’s voices are better reflected in future digital policies.
